What is clinical supervision?

Clinical supervision is a structured professional relationship in which a clinician reviews their practice with a supervisor — examining case formulation, intervention, ethics, documentation and professional development. It is distinct from therapy and from line management.
Who can receive RCSW supervision in Alberta?

Supervision toward RCSW registration is available to eligible Alberta social workers. Eligibility, hour requirements and supervisor requirements are set by the regulator and should be confirmed directly with them.
Can you supervise provisional social workers?

Yes. Supervision can support clinical skill development, documentation, ethical practice and progress toward registration requirements. Confirm with your regulator which supervision arrangements meet your specific requirements.
Can I use you as a secondary supervisor?

Often, yes — where your regulator, employer or training program permits an additional supervisor alongside your supervisor of record.
What is the difference between primary and secondary supervision?

A primary supervisor, or supervisor of record, is the person formally responsible for the supervision required by your regulator, employer or program. Secondary supervision is additional supervision or consultation provided alongside that relationship and does not automatically satisfy the same requirements.
Can you supervise a provisional psychologist?

This depends on the requirements of the relevant regulatory body and registration category. In some cases an additional or secondary supervisor is permitted. Share your requirements so eligibility can be reviewed before supervision begins.
Can you supervise a CCC candidate?

Mukesh is currently pursuing CCC Supervisor status. Until that designation is formally obtained, CCC supervision should be discussed on an individual basis and subject to applicable requirements.
Can Ontario professionals receive supervision?

Mukesh is registered as an RSW in Ontario. Supervision for Ontario provisional registrants may be available where regulatory and program requirements are met. Eligibility should be confirmed based on the registrant's specific registration pathway.
Is online supervision available?

Yes. Secure online supervision is available for supervisees across Alberta and other eligible locations, alongside in-person supervision in Edmonton.
How often should supervision occur?

Frequency depends on your role, caseload and any requirements set by your regulator, employer or program. Cadence is agreed during the initial consultation and reviewed over time.
Does supervision automatically count toward my registration requirements?

No. Whether supervision counts toward a registration requirement is determined by your regulatory body, based on your registration category and the supervision arrangement. This should be confirmed before supervision begins.
How do I know whether this supervision is accepted by my regulator?

Contact your regulatory body with details of the proposed supervision arrangement, including the supervisor's registration. Bring their requirements to the initial consultation so fit can be reviewed together.
